Blackpool’s Grand Theatre is launching an exciting new theatre company for young people this September – Do you want to be a part of it?

Are you aged 11 to 19 and interested in acting, set design, technical theatre, sound, theatre marketing, writing, costume or make up? Then the Grand Youth Theatre Company is for you!

The GYTC is a vibrant new opportunity for 11 to 19 year olds at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre. Sign up now for your chance to take part in the arts!

The GYTC will be led by Colin Snell of Arnold School and Blackpool’s renowned In Yer Space theatre group. Membership of the GYTC will be strictly via audition and places for auditions are limited.

Audition workshops will take place on Tuesday 15th September for 11 to 14 year olds and Wednesday 16th September for 15 to 19 year olds from 6pm at the Lawrence House Studio at Blackpool’s Grand.

With Colin as Youth Theatre Director, the GYTC will run on Wednesday evenings with 11 to 14s meeting from 6pm – 7.30pm and 15 to 19s meeting from 8pm – 9.30pm. The first class will be held on Wednesday 23rd September and each class will cost £5.

GYTC Director Colin Snell said: “Working at the Grand to provide theatre for and with young people is a tremendous privilege and I would hope to capitalise on my wealth of experience in the field and through my work with my previous groups to establish a national reputation for the new Grand Youth Theatre Company. It is no accident that the word ‘Company’ appears as part of the title for the new organisation, for that is exactly what I want to create – a company of actors and technicians and, in time, to involve young writers and directors who combine to produce work of the highest quality, drawing upon the commitment, energy, respect and discipline that are at the heart of a successful working group and one which rises to the challenge of producing new and exciting theatre.”

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre Education and Access Officer, Ian Lamond, added: “The GYTC will offer workshops and master classes in many different aspects of theatre arts and will not focus purely on acting. It is not intended to be a factory to produce future soap stars; it is much more about building confidence, self-esteem and a love of live theatre. There will be many exciting opportunities for members of the company to develop skills in technical theatre and other backstage work as well as performance.”
